The United Nations: In Everyone’s Interest - 2011
Why is it in the United States of America’s interest to work with and support the United Nations? What does the United Nations do that is important to you?

Millennium Development Goals - 2012
Which goals(s) is (are) most significant to you? Why?

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights - 2013
The Declaration of Human Rights contains 30 articles.
Which article(s) is (are) most significant to you? Why?
Essay Requirements:
* Essay must be 250 – 500 words and be double spaced.
* Students must use their own words.
* References must be used for borrowed material.
* A Submission Form with student, teacher, & school information must accompany essay.
Awards:
*
 
The First Prize high school winner will receive $200 and tickets to the World Affairs Council of Oregon’s International Speaker Series. The First Prize Middle School winner will receive $100.
*
 
The Second Prize and Third Prize High School Winners will receive $100 and $50 respectively, Middle School Winners $50 and $25 respectively.
* The Seven Honorable Mention winners will receive a pamphlet on the United Nations.
* All competitors will receive a UNA-USA Certificate of Merit.
*
 
The top ten High School and Middle School winners will be recognized at UNA-USA’s Annual Human Rights Day event held around December 10th.

Entry forms will be available in September
Deadline will be mid-November
Winners will be announced in early December
